Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. announced on Thursday that it is adding a second shift at it's assembly plant in Woodstock, Ontario which will create more than 800 jobs. Hiring will begin immediately in the hope that the new shift can be added by March. The company plans to increase it's output of Rav4 cross-over utility vehicles to 150,000 a year. This is another sign of recovery in the struggling auto-sector and in the U.S. automarket. Sales of Rav4 rose as much as 35 percent in the month of November. the vehicle rose 35 per cent in November. "Thanks to the high demand of this popular vehicle we are able to increase production and provide more jobs at Toyota," said company president Ray Tanguay. "We are all winners because when a plant like this expands, it adds to the supply chain and builds the industry." Federal Industry Minister Tony Clement said about the addition of 800 jobs. The sales for many Canadian auto-makers improved from the previous year in the month of November;  it is of note to remember that November was the same month that the industry and economy collapsed last year. Hyundai is quickly evening with the pack - General Motors, Chrysler, Ford, Honda and Toyota and becoming another competitor. Ford, which proved it's strength by neither filing for bankruptcy protection nor asking for government bial-out money earlier this year - also saw a positive increase in November. Toyota Canada Inc. announced today that it will be selling Scion cars in select Canadian cities like Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal in September of 2010. After searching and considering many candidates since April of this year, the Canadian Automobile Association crowned Creemore Ontario's Anna Ross "the most autogreen driver" on October 26, 2009. The CAA, in April, announced they would be holding a contest to find Canada's most environmentally-friendly driver.
