For 2010, the Mazda3 undergoes an exterior and interior redesign and offers more horsepower. The Hyundia Elantra receives improved fuel efficiency and new exterior styling for 2010. Available in the L, GL, GL with Sport Package, GLS and Limited trim lines, the Elantra also comes in a Touring hatchback model covered separately. All models use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with either manual or automatic transmission. The Elantra offers great value for its price in the compact sedan market and is one of the top 10 selling vehicles in Canada.

The Hyundai Accent enters 2010 with a few updates including improved fuel economy. This popular economy car is available in a four-door sedan or two-door hatchback in the L, GL, GL with Sport Package and GLS. All models feature a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine with continuous variable valve timing (CVVT). The Accent is one of the top 10 selling cars in Canada thanks to its affordable price tag and offers a longer warranty than other cars in its class.

The Yaris is Toyota's lease expensive model and is offered in two and four door. It scores high in fuel efficiency and is reasonably responsive but trails the better subcompacts in acceleration and handling at higher speeds. Its interior is roomy and comfortable and offers a higher quality than what might be expected for an entry-level car.

The Ford Focus enters 2010 with more standard features and an updated exterior design for the SES Sedan model. All models use a 2.0-litre Duratec four-cylinder engine with five-speed manual or optional for-speed automatic transmission. Available in a four-door sedan or two-door coupe, trim lines include the S, SE, SES, and SEL for the sedan and the SE or SES for the coupe. The Focus' affordability and sportier coupe model help it stay competitive in the compact car market.

The Nissan Versa enters 2010 with updated exterior styling on the 1.8 SL hatchback model and an iPod interface. Anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control are standard or optional depending on trim line. Available as a four-door sedan or four-door hatchback, the Versa comes with manual or automatic transmission. The sedan comes with a 1.6-litre four cylinder engine while the hatchback uses a 1.8-litre four cylinder engine. The SL model can be optioned with CVT.

The Toyota Matrix enters 2010 with minor updates having been completely redesigned in 2009. XR and AWD models have a new optional Sport Package with DVD-based navigation system and come standard with vehicle stability and traction control. Two engines are available: a 1.8-litre four-cylinder in the base Matrix, and a 2.4-litre four-cylinder in the XR, XRS and AWD. The Matrix is built in Canada, functions like a small sport utility vehicle, offers a sporty ride and is affordable.

The Honda Accord enters 2010 with minor changes. Available as a coupe or sedan, the Accord comes in the LX, EX and EX-L trim lines with either a 2.4-litre 4 cylinder or more powerful 3.5-litre V6 engine. With its roomy cabin, comfortable ride, agile handling and excellent reliability ratings, the Accord is considered to be one of the best sedans on the market.
